Urgent request
« on: May 31, 2006, 10:25:30 AM »
I have had calls from collegue's in Bulgaria & Romania who are experiencing extreme flooding in the upper Danube areas. There is extensive loss of property, livlihood, food and life in these areas. The Fire Service across in these regions are at best ill equipped - very often with no equipment.

They currently have no pumps or equipment to deal with this. They are looking for pumps or pumping appliances to deal with the flooding.

I know it's a big ask but it's a big problem. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Chris Houston

I have temporarily "stuck" this topic at the top of the board so it gets noticed better.

Feel free to stick a duplicate request (we don't normally allow this) in the Fire Safety forum, it is the most read forum on the board.  I'll delete the duplicate later.

Good luck, although I'm not sure how many of our readers have a spare fire engine (although maybe there are some in Hertfordshire that could be borrowed for just a few hours..........)

Thanks chaps - have tried OpFlorian who have still to get back to me. I am trying down the e-bay and autotrader route but the advent of fire engine limousines has inflated the price of any old fire service stock.

Thanks for all your help. =D

If you are having trouble finding equipment to donate have you thought about trying to provide expertise in the form of training assistance. This has the advantage of being easier to find (amongst your workmates: SRTIs, Boat handlers, Mud and ice rescue instructors etc) and the logistics are much easier.

Yes you are absolutely right and this has been looked at and is being planned but difficult when the skills and knowledge that we have is built around the operation of some form of equipment which these guys don't have. It's like trying to stop the burst dyke with a ball of string, a squezzy bottle and some old cereal packets which can still be pretty useful in well trained hands

Even so every little helps and even suggestions and "out of the box" suggestions made on these forums can make a difference to these folks lives - once again thanks.

Have you tried making contact with the various F&R Boards throughout the UK and asking them to consider donating surplus or redundant gear for this cause. Equipment is being upgraded and replaced regularily. I know of a large consignment of RTC gear that was shipped to Europe last year by an charitable organisation in England. This gear was donated by F&R Services.
We're not Brazil we're Northern Ireland.
