Hi there, this is the first time i have come across this forum.
I'm a fire alarm service engineer and have recently started to come across GENT fire alarm panels with my work.

Apparently you shouldnt remove the detector because the panel automatically moves all the device numbers etc in the loop and makes many problems, my question is, how should i take the detector down to service it on an addressable panel if the whole loop will need relogging afterwards?

This is a question I have had on my mind for quite some time and would be greatly interested to see what ideas you guys might be able to come up with, even better, would anyone know where I can find the installation and service manuals for GENT equipment?

yes, mostly the GENT vigilon panels as I seem to be coming across a lot of these lately.

This will only happen should you re-allocate the loop with the device removed.Gent manuals are pretty much like hen's teeth.
You would be better going to a trade forum for tech info though - www.thesecurityinstaller.co.uk . You'll need to go through the vetting process but it's worth it.

Yes because 'Gent' addressable fire alarm panels use the soft addressing such as Securiton and Zetfas panels... and 'Gent' stuff I think are closed protocol too, each time you remove a detector to replace it by a different type you need to use a laptop and their own software to see the loop map also in this kind of addressable fire alarm system the position of a device is important too as much as its address, they accept spuring and teeing from the loop for this reason you need to see the loop map using a laptop, I would advice you to download each time the device log, loop map as it is originally prior to disconnecting any thing from the system and try always to keep a back up but if you have not had training from Gent company you need on site a trained Gent engineer to show you ....

Chris,

Buzzard is correct you will only cause problems if you remove the device and disconnect the wiring. Once this is put back you'll need to re-allocate the loop. Should everytihng remain unchanged on the loop then the loop will "Recover" from the flash man and Robert is your fathers brother.

If however you are making changes i.e. changing smoke for heat etc, then depending on what software version the panel is you may need to take a download first. This would only be possible with Gent software which operates under a managed protocol system. "Gent approved companies have it". I would reccommend that you don't try anything like this without downloading first.

On older software it's possible to change device type without a laptop but I would only reccommend this if you know what your doing.

Tecserv are one of approximately 50 approved Gent companies. Depending on where abouts in the country you are looking. Also Gent themselves have a service division (Honeywell Gent Service) based around the country who have dealt with some very large projects and have a lot of expertise.

i agree but tecserv may not be as costly as honeywell and WILL be able to do as good a job as any other company.
they also cover the whole of the uk from 2 sites in england one in the london area and one in central england

if you need impartial advise contact them, they arent pushy lick alot of other companies

I agree with you Richard that other companies may not be as costly as Honeywell but I'm of the opinion that no-one can maintain equipment as good as a manufacturer. Any way what it does boil down to is that people have a varied amount of choice with expertise and budgets to suit everyone.

Your absolutley right Kurnal, However I was merely giving my opinion that I have found Gent useful in the past. I wasn't blowing their trumpet. I would have the same opinion if we were talking about an Minerva System. I would say that ADT would be the best people to carry out works as they know the product better than anyone.
