Graphic symbols for fire drawings
« on: March 05, 2007, 02:41:54 PM »
Does anyone know if there is a recommended graphic symbol for fire protection drawings for a Wet Chemical exitinguisher. I think BS 1635:1990 was producted before portable WC extinguishers were introduced.

Yes, there is a graphic symbol for a Type F fire extinguisher, its a frying pan with a fire symbol coming from the frying pan. agreed by the Technical Committee for Fire Safety Symbols.
BS EN 3

Thanks for your response Forrie,
I am aware of the EN3 symbol for extinguishers. My question related to symbols for fire protection drawings, (i.e a water extinguisher is a triangle with a circle with a vertical line inside).

No. If you use the old version of BS 1635, like most brigades did its easy to create a symbol with an inverse triangle and WC inside, but using the current code its different. I note some brigades using the newer version put the minimum fire rating next to the symbol so you could use the symbol for water based extinguishers and 75F next to it i suppose. The main thing is if you create a special symbol for something not covered you ensure the legend to symbols clearly states what you mean
