I'd like a pound for every time I've told someone (and in writing) not to store combustible material in a particular location and then returned to find them doing so. A lot safer to simply upgrade the cupboard.

The FRS should cancel the old enforcement notice, then re-audit the premises and follow the Enforcement Management Model, and the Enforcement Concordat. So, even if it comes up with a bad compliance level, if you agree that the work is going to get done then no enforcement notice should be needed.

You should also have a good think about the human behaviour aspect of the risks involved, rather than just making the building fit the guide. It may be that when you think about how parents might react, or how the children might react, you decide that extra measures may be appropriate. (i.e. How hard would it be do retrieve a child from the framed play equipment?)

Use the guidance documents for your occupancy if you are not certain what you are doing.  The risk has to be assessed as lower normal or higher, the wording is crucial and then measure the exit door widths,  The tables will tell you how many people you can have accoring to the risk category that you have assigned.  Do not forget that you need 2 exits for over 50 people.  If you are comfortable with assessing risk you can work outside of the parameters in the guidance documents.

Well there you have it --- a snapshot of fire safety in the UK at present ... everyone falling over backwards to help (except the Fire Service) with dozens of ideas about what to do and what not to do - some conflicting - some not - some good - some not - in what sounds like a bog standard 9A type of premises.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that they'll need a Performing Artists Licence for the stereo..... that'll probably cost more than anything else......

I must stop reading this stuff

Exit widths at the moment are the public entrance at 1500 double swing doors but at the other end, call it the staff entrance has a 750 door from the play frame into the stairwell then the final exit door is 1080. There is also another door 1080 which needs to be rehung to open in the direction of travel so it can then be used as fire exit into the stairwell and out the fire exit. So then there will be two doors leading to a final exit .

I have no problem with the doors, I agree to whats on the notice about them. It was just the cupboard and the stereo, and little security gate.
