Hididdly Ho

I am wondering if anyone else has had notice NOT to do any more monthly foam testing due to environmental issues

We just got a memo the other day to say it has to stop and that is all we have had

Have tried to get clarification from the Fire Manager and Ops Manager but they will not give more info

Also has there been any other airports gone from CAA to ICAO standards as this has also been mumbled about happening to us

Any info gratefully received

The local authority fire services have had a ban on the use of foam for tests and training for many years due to envrionmental concerns- foam entering watercourses and drainage can be a big problem. The ban is only lifted following a site specific environmental assessment. For fires it all becomes more dynamic but pollution of water courses is still a major concern and I believe a couple of brigades have had legal action taken or at least threatened following emergency incidents where foam was used.

I wonder if your ban is something similar and perhaps following assessment will be lifted - dont you have interceptors all over the place?

More importantly, do not throw milk into the water course it is far more damaging.

Fact sheets have been produced by the Fire Industry Association relating to environmental issues and fire fighting media
They can be found here

Fire Safety Trainers will need to take note.
