We are planning to fit air conditioning units into the ceilings of a number of small rooms in one of our buildings on site.Should they be wired up to shut down if the Fire Alarm is activated?Or is this practice mainly for ventilation units

Are these "split" type units?

Yes, split units with condenser outside

My personal opinion is that, as they do not take any fresh air in, or move any air out, that a shut down is not vital.

Remember to make sure the units and any ceiling mounted smoke detecotrs are not too close.

What is the use of the rooms served? Offices or commercial - no problem. I agree with Chris.
If there is some process going on or in a kitchen there may be value in shutting down- it depends where the air is blowing in relation to combustibel materials.
