Wrong fire alarm cables installed

Local religious establishment with 3 flats in same building has had a 5839 part 1 alarm installed within the last 2 years. Zones have been wired in twin and earth cable (harmonised colours). Is there any precedent whereby they can "get away" without replacing the cables (money is short, run by charity etc.). Seems a shame to force them to spend thousands they have not got just because some muppet electrician with no knowledge of fire alarms has failed to install correct kit.
I realise that the answer is to get him back and re do the job correctly, but I suspect he will be unfindable.

The alarm works fine and with a few exceptions (sound levels) all items are present and correct.

Any suggestions?

Call it a Part 6 system and leave alone.

All i can think is that at the end of the day someone has to certificate the system and note the wiring as an agreed variation. Providing it is properly fault monitored it may not be a huge issue, however it may still may not satisfy the local authorities.

There may be other issues however as to the type of cabling permissible in such establishments and whether it is low smoke and fume etc.....

I'm all for calling it a part 6 system but it aint. A part 6 system would give a local alarm in the area of the fire even if the interconnecting cable burned through or shorted.  This system would not,  so its  very likely the alarm would not be raised in the flat where the fire is. Which rather defeats the purpose.

Surey it wont be thousands to put it right John? Or at least those high risk areas such as  sleeping risks?

I assume this wasn't a "cash in hand job" and that a job was quoted for an paid for officially, so I'd be on the phone to the cowboy and getting him back in to sort it out for free!

Yeah sure try it - may be pleasantly suprised -but I think you will find it hard.

Shouldnt cost the earth to rewire, can be a simple job (attach end of new cable to the old and just pull it through in most cases)

You say that the 'zones' have been wired in twin and earth. What about the sounders?

They might as well have wired it in wet string and called it a variation , question how come 'House Bashers' never wire in FP2OO or equivalent when they do a house rewire.

Because the alarsm will have done their job before the fire gets big enough to affect the wires.

In big buildings and where the detectors and alarms are seperate units then the bits of wire need to stay around a bit longer.
