Hose reels in a old hotel
« on: May 18, 2008, 07:22:51 PM »
Just wondering what people's opinions are regarding hose reels in an old victorian hotel. 63 bedrooms, 5 floors including the basement, one on each floor through the centre of the building.
From a risk assessment point of view, are they more of a hinderance than a help?

Stewbow, there was a lengthy discussion recently along similar lines about hosereels in offices - see "Fixed Hosereels in an office environment" (Topic 2891) in this Fire Safety part of the Forum.

I have do it for you John http://www.fire.org.uk/punbb/upload/viewtopic.php?id=2891 (Fixed Hosereels in an office environment)
All my responses only apply to England and Wales and they are an overview of the subject, hopefully it will point you in the right direction and always treat with caution.

Ditto, best to phase out - see the previous thread for detail.

The only time I've not been able to remove reels is when they had been included on the listed buildings schedule for a site (they had been in over 60 years) they were drained, signed as out of use & had extinguishers, but had to stay
