Adhesive Escape Route Fire Safety Signs
« on: July 16, 2008, 12:36:18 PM »
I have a requirement to replace some of the adhesive fire exit signs on some light covers. According to the guy tasked with sourcing the signs, a search through the catalogues and the Internet have proved fruitless. I know these signs must be available as there are some in a some newly refurbished buildings.

I would have thought either the complete sign is available or individual directional arrows, the running man, etc are available so that one complete sign can be made up.

Could someone on this Forum point me in the right direction please and let me know where these signs may be purchased?

Many thanks.

Colin

Piglet,

Thanks very much for these sites. I have spoken with a couple of these companies and my signs are now on order.

You might also bear in mind that the habit of sticking signs over emergency lighting units may reduce the luminescence of that unit to below an adequate level.  The sign may well be adequately illuminated if placed next to, above/below the unit without interfering with the light level in the area the unit is required to illuminate.

Oh, and just make sure you use Running Man, Arrow, Fire Exit Door. NOT Running Man Arrow (wrong direction i.e. UP for Straight On, not DOWN) and White Fridge. :/

As stated you must use the proper overlay's for exit boxes - the links above are just to normal wall signs.

If you can peel off the old lettering or overlay it's just a job of popping a new translucent overlay on, otherwise its a whole new diffuser or slide in acrylic panel.

I get my overlays from here http://www.jactone.com/category/overlays_for_luminairs/100342/view.ashx

Make sure the replacements match the other signs if possible - if you have the BS 5499 man in doorway signs on your walls buy similar overlays, if it's the EC man arrow fridge/door/Eskimo Pie/Double Bank White Domino (etc) signs on your wall then it's the same for your overlay

Its still common practice to stick these things on emergency lights instead of proper exit boxes, I may be wrong but I seem to remember that this is now a no-no?
We only use proper illuminated exit signs if one is required, though many sparkies still fix stickers on em lights.
