New terminology for new Gent 'vigilon'
« on: September 01, 2008, 10:05:06 PM »
Guys;

Any one particularly well trained Gent engineer, aware of the new terminology of the Gent 'Vigilon' system, I used to service Gent system 3200 and 3400 series, and as none trained Gent engineer, I have been told long time ago, to disable all outputs if I am not sure...

The outputs are:

Sectors: 1 to 32 and loops 1 to 8
Build: 1 to 255
Group: 1 to 128
Master alarm: just enter to disable
Relays: 1 to 2
Comms: card '6' or what ever applicable...

The new Vigilon system, seems not reconising any more Groups as outputs, it consider them as 'inputs' or 'zones', so if disabled the smoke detectors would not trigger and that's what happened today.

Headache but sorted out with made in China cheap paracetamol after sunset. every day is school day !

Any comments on that!

Hello

I go with...

Sectors 1 to 32
Loops - however many are installed (1 to 8)
Master alarms - if connected
Aux relays - as above
Comms 1 to 15

has worked okay for me on various Gent models (although I seem to remember Sectors being called something else on some machines)

HTH

Thats the way I've always done it.

Please guys?
What is a sector in vigilon speak?

I thought that if a panel fell over or lost its configuration it would revert to a sector- ie a fallback mode or fail safe that can be configured -  sector 1 for example being the bottom line -  operating every device, sounder, interface etc. for any input.  Or am I still confused (reaches for more medication)

The main question as per the original post is:

Were 'Builds' and 'Groups' considered as outputs in the old Gent systems 3200 and 3400 series, and now they are inputs in Vigilon system?

I have been told recently, a lot of terminology have been changed with the new Vigilon system, what are these changes?

Thank you

As I said yesterday afternoon; Groups have always been inputs, used for cause & effect programming eg. Double knock (co-incidence) effects.

Some panels had Groups INSTEAD of zones.

32000 Panels used Zones.  Sounder disablement was done via Zones.

3400 Panels have always, to my knowledge, been zonal/group inputs and sectors outputs.

The only other disablement I would consider, aside from those listed by my learned colleagues, is command builds, where programmed.

Terminology changes, although not many, are, I believe, to comply with BS/EN requirements.

If you are unsure of any terminology, don't hesitate to ask......You have my number......
