Major Fire Safety Works - Invitation to Contractors
« on: September 26, 2008, 07:26:04 PM »
Following an FRA carried out at a client's premises the have asked me (via my employer) to help organise and supervise the substantial remedial works.

As such I invite interested parties or recommendations of reputable companies for the submission of quotations.

Several issues are inter-related and practicality, cost (long term and short term) and efficacy will decide the final work as there are several ways of doing it.

Three distinct parts:

1) Major passive FP works to upgrade replace obsolete or substandard FR doorsets, fire stop a LOT of penetrations of compartment walls & floors and possibly upgrade a lot of poorly/unprotected wooden floors and beams.

2) Sprinkler system- primarily a full decommissioning of the the system, with removal of certain parts and mothballing of others; on the flip side the system might be restored to full coverage instead as a compensation measure so the two extremes are being considered once quotes are in (it's already been part re-enginneered and benefits from a secondary supply tank & pumps rather than the traditional single town main with similar aged systems)

3) Fire alarm. Rip out a shambles of a 60's type M system that was rewire in standard twin & earth and replace with one larger addressable system and a smaller twinwire system to a part of the site that dosen't really need to be on the main system. L1 or L2 (tbc) for the addressable, L5 for the twinwire.

Interested parties can only be able to deal with one part, although those who can competently do more than one are going to be advantageous. You will need to tick all the boxes regarding insurance, approvals etc & will be audited for competence during the works.

The most I'll say about where the site is publicly is it's in the East Midlands and is a former mill complex.

I know this is a sort of reverse advert & hope it doesn't offend - it will just save me some time going through directories & give some of the reputable firms who post on here or are known by posters to be good a chance for an interesting (it isn't going to be easy!) job
