Heat Release Rates for Sprinkler Controlled Fires
« on: February 04, 2009, 08:46:51 PM »
I am currently searching in vain for published heat release data for sprinkler controlled fires. I have a project that involves an atrium within an Extra Care development with open balcony escape. At the moment we have natural ventilation but are reviewing tenability and considering mechanical extraction to work along side our sprinklers throughout the development.

Can anyone point / refer me to any such published data prior to modelling the works? ???

BS 7346-4:2003 suggests:

qf (for low heat release rate) = 250kW.m-2
qf (for high heat release rate) = 625 kW.m-2

625kW.m-2 is a commonly used value where unknown fuels/items might be present.
