Test certificates for Hard Wired Smoke detectors
« on: March 06, 2009, 03:30:32 PM »
Very quick one chaps

When installing hard wired smoke detectors into residential property (currently being done by our own in-house repairs people), do the detectors need a test certificate after installation?

If so can I avoid paying nearly as much for the certification as I do for the install by using a specialist company for both?

(will I win my usual bet with myself?)(not forgetting your 50%... you know who you are!!)

You will indeed need a commissioning certificate.

And you can indeed use the same company for design, installation and commissioning.

And sorry about your bet. Kurnal must be having a lie down. (Well deserved too)

If you're talking about mains wired detectors then if you use an NICEIC or ECA approved company they I would have thought they should provide certification in the form of an electrical certificate and a 5839 pt 6 certificate.....
