Inspection and servicing certificate!
« on: March 26, 2009, 01:30:38 PM »
Colin Todd stated in his article the following:

[ It will be noted that, while the new amendments are, in theory, of an editorial nature, a number of them are quite significant. It is, therefore, important that users of BS 5839-1 ensure that they are referring to the latest, 2008 edition, which is annotated on the cover with the reference “+A2: 2008” after the reference BS 5839-1: 2002. ]

The question is; If the current service and inspection certificate handed to customer still mentioning [ ...BS5839-1, 2002...], would that be non compliance to the standard?

Benz, it makes sense to use the latest title and why not?

You mention a service and inspection certificate, in particular. However if there are no differences in the requirements of the original document and the 2008 A2 amendments for service and inspection then, that the title of the certificate, is one or the other, surely makes no real difference to what the customer is getting and surely also couldn't be used as an indicator of failure to comply!

So what are the special things in the 2008-A2 document, which are not mentioned in earlier version then?

I mean shall we keep the same old service and inspection certificate, as long as there is no difference raised up?

I understand you said it makes sense to use the latest title! but if not would we in beach of the standard or not?

Benz,

The changes in the standard are highlighted by means of symbols alongside paragraphs which have changed i.e.

"A1 False Alarm With Good Intent A1"

This would symoblise that this was added or amended in the A1 release of the B.S. or if it was A2 then the amendment or addition would be in the A2 release. You should have a look through the standard and see what A2 changes there are and see if any of them affect your service sheet. If not then you have no amendments to make.

So far, I think we have to have a special budget to buy BS versions...   :)
