Came across this on web~
http://www.ak-innotech.com/english/frontpage.html

This device is triggered by smoke or heat alarm & shuts down the device causing alarm triggering, by having power shut down eg a toaster.

The application shows it connected off mains power circuit,
whereas generally here is off lighting circuit.

Anyone see any benefits of such an item in UK/seen anything similar?
:)

gel, such a device already exists in the uk - if the 'developers' are allowed perhaps they might like to comment (cos they do read this site, and often conribue)

Davey, Would that not be offering a platform to filthy capitalists? Should it not wait until we nationalise them?

mr todd, as the money to develop their product came from the masses, i do consider it to be a gadget of the people, for the people and on behalf of the people, therefore i am prepared to help small capitalists become as big as your good self!!!!

gel, if you search on here im sure you'll find it - or look out for mark!!

Careful Davey, thats how it all started in the USSR. Next thing you know you will wake up and instead of Ruthie it will be some geezer offering the hand of friendship to Johnnie P and rabbitting on about Glasnost instead of Glasofbrownale.

In asnwer to the original question, I think it is a bad idea.  It would be better to have the domestic fuse board up graded to take MCB and RCD which will trip out much sooner than a smoke detector detects the fire, in fact is should stop the fire in the early stages.

This idea need a sfire to work after which time cutting the power may not help that much, I stress MAY.

biker - the devices can also be designed to operate gas shut off valves. dont see it as THE answer, see it as PART of the answer!

It sounds like a good invention but as all good inventions and well just plain inventions the faults that occur like from automatic fire alarm systems. Well you know the old story one alarm triggers and the FB has to be responded taking their services away from the community to yey another false alarm the idea is great but consider the logistic that everytime the alarm fails FFs they have to stumble around in the dark. Sometimes it is better to leave the power on than to cut it esspecially take high rise or even a domestic building.
