retrofitting of sypholes to fire doors

Hi all - if youve seen this post before - its because I put it on the wrong forum - so apologies for that!

Does anyone know if its acceptable to retrofit spyholes to fire doors? And, if its allowed,does anyone know a good company that could do it? The doors are fitted to students rooms in a managed block.

Theres a correct answer and a practical answer.
The correct answer is that as these things drill all the way through the door they create a weakness the effect of which is impossible to predict and so the whole assembly should be subject to test.

On the other hand you have conflicting hazards of personal assault and fire safety perhaps it would be reasonable to balance thise risks by using a  steel or brass viewer, drill with care to ensure the exact fit without any gaps, and use intumescent paste around the viewer to pack the hole.

I suggest any dcent joiner should be able to do this provided the RP applies a good level of instruction and supervision

 The building seems otherwise to be managed well, has an alarm fitted, smoke detectors in rooms and in common areas, etc, so I think I'll go down the decent joiner route.

Even if I fitted one with my new JCB drill following the instructions could I make such a c**k up that I would put somebody at risk?
