As anybody encountered this new product which is on the market, it replicates a normal cigarette.
It has all the qualities of a normal cigarette but without the effects of the toxic smoke.

I recently carried out a fire risk assessment in an office building where a number of the employees were using these within the building. Having seen a demonstration it gives off a vaporised spray but without the smell.

I was unsure if they would actuate a smoke detector. I did not want to test it out just it case it generated false alarm.

Has any fire alarm engineers encountered these and if so what are your opinions with regards to their use in buildings.

It may sound mad, but if little info is forthcoming suggest it is put to the test on the next quarterly alarm service when any monitoring station links and the sounders will be silenced.

Not scientific, but will give some idea. Although if they are really bad the building will probably have found out well before the next service!

I can't imagine anything more daft than a board room or an office full of people puffing away on "electronic" cigarettes....

What's the point...?!

If anyone looked like they were enjoying it they'd soon make it illegal.
