FBU's present?
« on: April 12, 2010, 07:03:55 PM »
Have you received the Guide to BS 5839-1 2002+A2 2008 from the FBU. Written by the FSA distributed by the FBU? STRANGE what's it all about?.
All my responses only apply to England and Wales and they are an overview of the subject, hopefully it will point you in the right direction and always treat with caution.

It is A5 size with 42 pages, basic and it doesn't appear to be copyright. What I cannot understand why a copy was sent out with the Firelighter?

I know the FBU has produced technical guides to help FPO's in the past, but these have normally been priced publications - perhaps it was sponsored by an Industry body to foster greater understanding and knowledge amongst fire fighters (as often you come across small businesses who have asked a non FPO fire-fighter who is a friend or acquaintance advice and got a load of outdated twaddle back as an answer as it's not their area of speciality)

How does one obtain a copy. I am dealing with a multiple fatality fire quite a lot at the moment, so I could do with something to make me laugh.

Colin, get yourself on facebook, there is a group/page called "That awkward feeling you get when a woman speaks without permission", Lots of funny pictures and examples of good old fashioned sexism. Always amusing.

Civvy, Thanks for the advice. can you also provide a copy of the FBU fire alarm guide.  It occurs to me that the subect appeals to them because of the RED call points, the RED bells and the RED cable all over the place.

Why on earth would the FBU concern itself with the production of a guide on BS5639? Are there not many already? Very?????

It appears if you do not receive a copy of the firelighter you don't get one. I have looked on both websites and there is no more info other than what been said.

Just given it a dust down and had a look, it was written by the FSA (Fire & Security Association) and distributed by the FBU.

Can I have a copy, please, pretty please. I just know the FBU would want me to have one, and their members wont mind them sending me one as a good friend of the British Fire Service.
