Fire Safety Training Films

Some of you are aware of the fact I am involved in fire history, specifically that around the portable extinguisher.

As part of this I have been  sourcing old 16mm training films & getting them converted to preserve evidence of how things used to be.

Below are links to the ones I have so far that can be viewed on line. In general I find that they are actually far better & set in more realistic surroundings than some modern bland training films.

1960's - "The Control of Fire" - Sadly the 16mm original wasn't in good order & the sound had to be stripped, but you get the gist from viewing

Anyone who has old training videos & 16mm films and wants to clear shelf space please let me know - although extinguishers/fire fighting  is my main interest, general fire safety is of interest too.

Excellent Anthony Thanks. One of the problems with the modern videos and lpg simulators today is the lack of real life context that the old videos can give.

Just one other thing struck me - I have just seen Davo's entire wardrobe in those films.

There was a short film on fire safety (CoI?) filmed in the main building at Fire Research in the 1970s (although it was dressed up as an ordinary office block) which I'd love to see again - if you ever come across it do let me know!

Apologies for the late reply,and thank you very much for posting: some gems, especially the "Control of Fire" which I hadn't seen before. Looking through the chaotic, virus-ridden muddle that is my collection of extinguisher-files , I found an updated Youtube-link which is almost-equivalent to the Chubb 1971 film; it's a basic generic introduction to extinguisher use, from around the time when the legislation re. panel-colouring rather than whole-body colouring was looming (i.e. 20-odd years after the first film). The demos are again performed by Chubb staff, and most of the featured units are the standard Chubb range. No careless old mechanic igniting his equipment in this version though...

Also, for general interest, there is a BRE film (the item in question starts 2:10 in) showing footage of one of the full-scale mockup-rigs going up rather rapidly, as part of the investigation in to the Stardust fire:

Ah yes - it's the 1997 update to the Chubb Film 'Choosing the right weapon' of which I have an original copy.

If you ever saw the 80's 'Choosing the right weapon' you would remember it as it is SO surreal!

It starts off in the grounds of some Country Estate like Chatsworth & has a load of 19th Century costumed drama types having a duel over a young lady. The girl's father wins by using a hand grenade instead of his flintlock pistol...........and then it actually switches to fires!

I'm always after archive* extinguisher stuff, so if anyone is clearing out and was about to throw away that old literature and film let me know first!
