Eon Power down adaptors
« on: October 22, 2010, 06:39:34 PM »
Does anyone have any information on a block type electrical adaptor which is produced by the energy company Eon?  It is very like the traditional block type electrical adaptor and is designed for use with a PC.  You connect the main PC power plug into a particular insert and put the peripherals into the two inserts either side of the adaptor.  The socket then plugs into the wall or other main socket/intake.  The purpose is that the socket senses when you have turned off the pc and learns the power reduction therefore turns off the peripherals automatically.  It claims to be' intelligent power managment'.   I have just carried out a fire risk assesment for a council and they are everywhere in the building.  I understand that they were given free by the energy company.  I dont have a major concern although had they been a normal block type adaptor with all the usual risks I would have had.  I wondered if anyone has had experience or opinions of them, good or bad?

I have one of these Eon power adaptors for my pc set up. Connected are the PC, Monitor, printer and modem.
Shutting down the PC automaticly turns off all  the other items, so none are left on standby.

This obviously save power which is what it is designed for.

I have had no concerns on safety and provided that all the equipment does not exceed 13 amps it is better to ensure the power is off at the socket than still being live to the equipment.

Hope this helps
