The difference is not subtle.

You are trying to relate mains electrical circuit recommendations to fire alarm system circuit recommendations.

They are two completely different things.

Any reference to mains electrical circuit recommendations in the fire alarm system recommendations only apply up to the mains electrical supply connection to the cie, and no further.

Using the bog standard test, smoke should activate after 40 or so secs, heat about 2 and a half minutes according to manufacturers literature I have read.

How does this fit in?

Electrical engineering is electrical engineering!

It makes no difference what voltage I am using, whether I am safely supplying socket outlets or fire bells, or anything else that I might be trying to achive!

But the guidelines, recommendations and best practices may differ.
