Is there such a thing for training purposes which demonstrates what smoke may look like in any situation?

Sorry. The interweb brings out the worst in me.

But I'm not convinced that making it a bit difficult to see is a great idea. If it's proper smoke then you can't see anything.

If you did want something you might want to look at whats available in the Disability Awareness arena.

I've seen them used before and they're quite effective.  They replicate an environment as smoke starts to come out into the corridors.  I know it's easy to imagine, but actually getting people to try the glasses is just a practical exercise which breaks up the training.

The point being?  Unless you have experienced the effects of smoke, light or heavy it is something that is very difficult to simulate and as for the reaction of people, who knows, a lot depends on how they feel at the time.  Whether, as suggested in many guidance documents people will traverse through smoke, at whatever height the layer is, is purely conjecture, it depends.

could i ask in which context you are providing the training.

what is the role(s) of the people being trained. and what scenario are you trying to replicate? i.e. in what circumstance would the trainees find themselves in that would require them to be trained in, or experience a smokey environment?
