Commercial Kitchen Regs - AN

Hi Guys,

Help!

I'm trying to confirm the wiring and electrical limitations for kitchens - specifically :

What is allowed behind a cooking appliance and the area below the hood.

What is the limit to distances/heights of non IP gear to a cooking appliance? or hood perimeter?

Any help would be appreciated,

You will find little in the way of detailed prescription in BS7671 2008 A 2011 with regards to commercial kitchens. Chapter 42 of that Standard would be the most pertinent. Any one designing, or indeed inspecting the fixed installation in such places will have to ensure that IP ratings, IK ratings and heat are considered and appropriate. I do not recognise the 300mm limitation.

Electricians Guide to The Building Regulations Part P gives the info but this refers to domestic installs only at 300mm. There are several advices from 300 - 1000mm but nothing stated as a recommendation other than Part P and certainly no legal Guidance or Regulations that I can find.

Your right, there is nothing out there be that BS7671 et al, which regulates the installation of supply sockets/switches in the vicinity of water.

Maybe if it was included on a RA tick box form, someone may eventually change that.... ::)

for a workplace, its the electricity at work regs. essentially - use BS 7671 (iee regs)
