London Fire Brigade Cuts
« on: January 11, 2013, 08:03:37 PM »
Dark days indeed for the Brigade.  Those who served and continue to serve and those who are served will suffer for these budgetary arrangements.

New Cross opened in 1894 and has served the people of Lewisham and Southwark for all that time.

Peckham again down to one appliance as it was in 1979 when it was the busiest station in London.

Southwark going as well so in a line from Lewisham to Lambeth there is a whole lot missing.

No Clapham to the west and only Old Kent Road and Dockhead on top of each other to the North.

Of the old 11 "B" Divisons stations that leaves

Lambeth
Dockhead
Old Kent Road
Deptford
Peckham
Brixton, and
West Norwood

And the Lakanal inquest starts Monday!!

Is it dark, or just a tiny fluffy cloud. If I have a fire, the nearest fire station is a good 10-15 minutes away, but I never have sleepless nights unless the cats get restless and walk all over me.

But you live in leafy Surrey where fires are just in open grates or log burning stoves.  The areas of concern are those where fire setting is the norm and people lives are at risk due to the demographics of those areas.
Also you can probab;y make those small miles on quiet country lanes or fast roads whereas a mile or so in London can take hours.

Jokar, My neighbours had a chimney fire not long ago.  The heros of Surrey Fire Brigade, a nicer band of chaps you could not hope to meet (even their fire safety officers) had quite a running distance. (Naturally, I heroically escorted the appliance up our private lane, assuring them of the adequare road width and the turning circle at the top.)

I do not think that the heros of LFB ever take hours to get through the traffic. So, dont worry dear its only a commercial.

Thank you, however, for reminding me of life in London.  It reinforces why I live in Surrey.

And I was under the impression that London was your favourite place in the whole world!

LFB cover a mile in 6 minutes in traffic in the early 90's.

The same user has a clip with an LFB range rover first heading the wrong way then going around Trafalgar Square.....the wrong way!
