« on: September 16, 2014, 11:59:25 AM »
hi all
single staircase,3 storey commercial premises(mixed use inc sleeping risk), fire doors opening onto staircase, there are I believe 3 cat's of free swing A,B,C, my question is will such fire doors need to meet a specific category to comply,(full L1 system throughout)?

thanks

What does the risk assessment say?

BS7273-4 is a guidance document it does not recommend which category of device is to be used where. It does have Annex A which gives you likely categories you should consult.

If you imagine instead of Category A you label it(the door) critical risk category, Category B Normal risk category and Category C Indirect Category this may help get your head round it.

I've always found the WYFRS guidance as a good starting point/handy reminder of the issues - see link below.
