Stay Put Policy.

I have received a number of enquirers about landlords ripping out fire alarms, FFE from the common areas of flats and applying a stay put policy, when the building meets the required standard. It appears they do not understand the necessary requirements, one said because the front door is FD30 but my main concern is what they are saying about Stay Put Policy. They are saying tenants MUST say in the flats which I accept for most of the tenants but there will be some who will need to evacuate for their own safety. I think the advice should be to stay put if you feel it is safe to do so. Comments please

Tom this is covered in detail in the LGA guidance written by Dotty - see especially appendix 4,5 and 6. Sample notices are provided. Why do these people have to reinvent the wheel and make things harder than they need be.

  Big Al, you know the answer to that question. Because they cannot be arsed to get the proper guidance and read it, when they can ask someone "down the pub" or on Firenet and then accept advice based on no knowledge of the premises and then charge people for the advice.

Has anyone ever come across a block of flats built to B Regs yet, particularily with regards to compartmentation?

Wishful thinking Owain. Being Council means nothing to a builder.
