Hello,

I have been told that 'old style' mesh filters are no longer acceptable in industrial application and have to be replaced with newer baffle filters due to a fire risk. Can any one direct me to this change in the legislation?

Is this retrospective?

Does it apply to domestic cooking equipment but in a non domestic setting? OR is this only connected to industrial equipment in an industrial setting?

Are there any mitigating circumstances that one can use as evidence not to require their replacement - such as cooker hob is rarely used for shallow frying and never deep frying? OR the filters are removed and cleaned on a regular basis.

Thanks,

BESA is the trade association for the industry and publish guidance document DW172 which they say is the definitive guide to kitchen ventilation systems in non-domestic properties. Their website states that this guidance was last updated in 2005 and that DW172  (?30 for members ?60 for non members) clearly details all the requirements for the design, installation and maintenance of kitchen ventilation systems.

Of more practical use may be an industry link but as always you use such information at your own risk. All these websites may be inaccurate and out of date.

So it seems there has been no recent change in legislation
