Fire Statistics

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I?m looking for statistics on fires, and fire deaths, in UK care homes and specialised housing.  Government stats don?t break down the info into the specialized risk groups that I?m interested in, so I wondered if anyone else does.

You could try a freedom of information request to all UK Fire Services, I'm assuming of course you are referring to UK premises. It may be worth a punt.

CTreble, the new specialized housing guide will give you this for sheltered housing. For care homes, Home Office could give you this from IRS data if you could persuade them to be bothered.

The Home Office are now publishing much more detailed stats on their website.

I don't think it runs to care type premises yet. you do need to be careful with this stuff. The more detailed the breakdown the more susceptible to the vagaries of the IRS your answer becomes. (eg - whatever the firefighter calls the building is what goes into the IRS - not always in line with the formal definition).

weeB are you suggesting... wait you cant be..... no no no no no, I could never bring myself to believe this.  For one terrible moment, I thought you were suggesting that IRS data is sometimes bunkum because a firemen chappie doesnt know the difference between a care home, extra care housing, sheltered housing and possibly even a nuclear power plant.

It would be like suggesting that Genesis is wrong and it actually took God 10 days to make the world.  If anyone didnt believe Genesis where would Society be today.

I wouldn't necessarily blame the firefighter completing the form (not always) - but yes, you need a pinch of salt.

Scottish people always put salt on food before tasting it.  It annoys expensive restaurants with snobby chefs no end.

I recall one of the authors of BS5839-6 saying that they poured over statistics before arriving at fundamental requirements, so one would hope that the figures are wee bit more robust than is being suggested. Then again, Grenfell Tower will likely be recorded as an electrical fault, which totally skews the understanding.
