TFS information to operational crews at incidents
« on: January 05, 2006, 12:39:38 PM »
Has any one any examples of how crews / incident commanders at incidents are provided with information about fire engineered soultions and the effect of these on a burning building and fire fighting operations etc. My main interest is in large comlpex buildings where the engineered soultions are for life safety and the premises would still be occupied on arrival of fire service.

London Fire Brigade's FS Engineering team recently introduced the concept of Premises Infomation Boxes.

As the name would suggest, a secure metal box situated usually outside the affected premises, which contains as much specific info as is required for intial crews. (a similar system has been used for all sub surface London Underground stations for many years)

I like the idea of the Premises Information Boxes; I wish all brigades insisted that commercial properties are required to have them. If any Fire Marshal course providers read these messages, it may be worth including a recommendation of the above during the course. I don’t at present have an outside box, just a binder by the FP with all site info including chemical data. The future generation of fire appliances will have all the information available to them via a visual display unit; this will be ok as long as the information collected is correct and regularly updated. I know some private brigades are using this advancement, but not sure if any of the county brigades use it yet.
