Building control and fire doors

Hi all,

Looking a little assistance / advice.

Scenario is an old care home is undergoing a major refurb.
Building control are demanding compartmentation in an area which is too small for doors but acts as means of escape for approx 6 people, who would rarely be in the area.
My thoughts was to put in a fire curtain with a delay in the full deployment. Has anybody any experience of these? Or any thoughts on any other solutions?
