BS9999 Advice
« on: August 31, 2021, 09:05:22 PM »
I'm currently undertaking unit 9 of the L4 certificate, fire auditor, from Moreton. I have been stuck on door widths for 2 days.

When calculating minimum door widths, do I subtract the largest door from the figure arrived at using the table for minimum door widths, or, is this the figure that should be available once the minnimum value has been worked out?

In addition to the above, the course questions give a number of door widths, several of these are 750mm; 9999 clearly states that a minimum of 800mm; am I missing something here?

Most gratefull for any advice here!

With regards to the 750mm & 800mm part as BS9999 is primarily a designers alternative to Approved Document B and not a risk assessment benchmark on existing legacy buildings it assumes that the building you are applying it to is still a drawing or undergoing large scale construction alterations so your exits would always be no less than 800mm! The benchmark FRA guides allow for the legacy 750mm widths.

And, of course, there is the. Legacy from the last edition of 9999 that cocked up the number of people you could get through a 850 door!
