Converting fire detection - P system to L system
« on: April 28, 2022, 03:33:19 PM »
Hi folks. Easy question for the fire alarm experts. What needs to be done to convert a P1 system to an L1 system and how easy is it? Thanks in advance.

Sounders might be a good start

Call points & sounders as per a Category M system, making it a P1/M system as per BS5839. If you wanted it to be L1 you would reduce the battery capacity of the panel and dump the ARC link and any external strobes.

Detector position should already be identical in both L1 & P1, the main differences are monitoring, standby duration with no mains and the provision of call points and sounders.

If it's already P1/M then you are in theory already exceeding the spec of an L1 system so you don't need to change anything.
