Colin one for you, I think?

Just a small query for you with reference to BS5839,2002 section 2 paragraph 3 under the heading of Radio Linked Systems,

“Signal levels and background noise at every point of the system.”
Does this mean that you have to go to each individual head/point and take a reading or you can take the reading from the panel if capable of doing so?

your thoughts on this would be appreciated

i take the readings from the control panel per device.

Princess I agree that probably you should go to each individual device/point which would be fine in a small location but with a large location with multiple floors, well you see what I mean! And surely you know the system is robust enough because you did it all when the initial survey was done and when the system was commissioned?
I realy dont know what youd know unless youd like to share what you do know, what or where are you a Princess of??

Graeme I thought this might be the better option but apparently not all panels are capable of doing this, but if the panel is capable then this means that you would have to have a lap top in your possession, down load the info, and then transfer to your log book !

Princess-that would be too easy. Engineers like a challenge and besides a print out is more pro and not made up.

Princess’s and gentlemen, Ive got a pencil somewhere? But as Im not the engineer I wont have to write it down any way.
As for the techy bit why cant the readings be taken from the computer that has the graphics package it could be written into the software, you could do “it” any time you had a glitch  with the system, but this doesn’t answer the question “head or panel” not “soup or omelette” as for the legs Princess post a picy please!
As for me having a spokes person "Graeme" or another, I grew out of short trousers a few months ago!! honest, and ive got some legs as well, not bad looking if i do say so myself!!!!;)

i too have witnessed the aforementioned limbs of the royal one amongst us, however im not sure that political correctness would allow me to make coment as to whether they are stll quisite or in fact used to be quisite and are now ex-quisite.

i can say however that they do move in mysterious places - having witnessed them at the bugs, however i would not like be seen to be sending the wrong signals, whether uhf or otherwise!

Thanks Collin, but it was interesting to see that the measurements are also taken from else wear not just at the head as indicated.

Just sprung to mind, as 1 of the principal authors of BS 5839, 2002 said
"It is meant for the guidance of wise men and the blind obedience of fools". could this be true?

just being curious but if you are not an Engineer,why do you need to know?

The panel i have used in the past  has the facility to call up a device and view it's signal level,head value and battery left as well as RSSI interference levels.

work at a place that has radio stuff, just wanted to be sure of the facts because im involved with an upgrade of this system and wanted to know if other means were ok or not?
