CENG Exemplifying Quailifications

I would welcome views on the following particulalry so if you have had direct experience but all thoughts welcome.

The basic exemplifying qualification for CEng is now apparently a relevant B Eng (Hons) degree + relevant Masters degree.  However it is possible to "bridge the learning gap" between the B Eng (Hons) and the Masters by undertaking agreed further learning under the auspices of your registering body (IFE).  Trouble is it all seems to get a bit woolly as to what this entails and how practical it is.

Cleary some woolliness is appropriate because no two candidates backgrounds will be the same but how tried and tested is this route?  Is it just simpler to bite the bullet and do the Masters?
