Thats a good point rp. Theres no point in spending hours and hours studying what Personal Qualities and Attributes to talk about. If you don't have them, then firefighting may not be the job for you. If those PQA's don't come to you pretty quickly, then you may always struggle. Of course there are always exceptions though.

Theres more to the job than squirting a bit of water and being swooned at by young ladies. Sadly.

I fully agree with what you two guys are saying rp and toby, and believe me when I say that I have all of the PQA's to become a firefighter. I didnt at the start, but I took the proper steps to improve so that I could meet all the PQA's. Which this product really helped me realise and advised me on how to improve. It also really helped me figure out the best way to structure my answer which is something I needed help with.

I agree with what your saying that either you have the relevent PQA's or you dont but i think sometimes especially in an interview sitaution some people just need a bit more  help giving evidence of them and going into more detail about what they did.

Thats all I was offering by telling people about this. I really wasnt dong it for personal gain trust me I just wanted to help out some other people who may be having difficulties so that they  to can succeed.

I'm not knocking your ambition or your desire to improve and develop yourself for the role of a firefighter, indeed i am impressed by your drive, but until such a time as you are employed as a firefighter (through using the things you learned from these products), how can be sure that they are as great as you claim? Until such a time as you pass the interview, you cannot gauge as to how useful the book is.

There are a lot of people who frequent these sites with the ambition of being a firefighter, and a lot of companies who exploit this by promoting 'guaranteed' success. I don't like the idea of people being duped out of their cash on the premise of acheiving their aim in life.

You can get all the help you need on sites such as this.

Thank you fireguy Its my ambition in life to be honest and I wont stop till I get there. I also totally agree and understand what you are saying there is lots and lots of products out there that promise success and dont give you the results. Trust me I know they are all in my bookshelf and thats why I failed the interview last year when I applied for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service. I got all the feedback I could and found out where I went wrong and took the steps to improve which I think this product can offer me as the person responsible for it has worked with alot of Fire and Rescue Service which I made sure I checked out.

I totally agree with you I to hate the idea of people being duped out of there cash and looking back on it maybe saying this will make sure you pass or call it the best tool for passing is a bit much as I cant prove this, I should have said it could help or it may help you improve I thank you for pointing this out.

Also for anyone reading this thread fireguy is right sites like this are a gold mine get as much advice from people on here or visit a fire station you cant got wrong that way. I personally believe that there is no better advice that you can get than from a serving firefighter.

Fireguy what service are you currently a part of?

I am actually involved in the recruitment side of things for the airport, so unfortunately i have to be very guarded about what i tell people. I have to be totally impartial and can't compromise myself by giving away info on forums.

But what i say to every potential applicant is to revise standard grade level maths and english for the written tests, and the physical test consists of the bleep test to level 9.6, plus various other weight related exercises. When you apply for the position you are given more information on what the job and selection tests consist of.

I would be very wary of paying out for a book that "may" help you for an interview. The questions have been recently updated, pass mark structure changed etc etc.

If you have life experiences study the PQA's you will have a great chance in passing the interview and giving your self a fantastic chance of becoming a Firefighter.

I would suggest you take advantage of the information given by the FRS you are applying for and speak to others that have recently gone through the process.

By the time you buy the book things will have changed and it will be out of date.

Just my opinion though!
Any views I express are my own and not my employers. Still confused!

Thanks for that fireguy I appreciate that you cant give away to much as you involved in the recruitment I will take your advice and do excatly that are far as my maths and english skills go I should hopefully be okay with them. I have plenty of time to to prepare if it is not till next year and I will do all the hard work it takes to get in to the Fire service.

I will make sure I keep my fitness to a very high standard as well to maek sure I can pass the fitness test, Is there a job related test where you actaully haft to do some tasks actaully involved int eh role?

Rips i see what you are saying I have alot of experience that I think I can apply to the PQA's But i needed help to structure my answer in the right way and give evidence of how I actaully demostrated these PQA's which this booked helped with.

I have foudn it very difficult trying to get in touch with people who have passed the interview for any of the Fire Services I applied for allow I still do have my letter which Indicates the what PQA's I would be asked about do you think I should use this to come up with ways to show the PQA's?

Regarding Job related tests, I had to go through several of them.

Tests included a grip test (squeezing a little electronic gadget)
Vertical pull lest, (pulling a little gadget straight up)
9 metre Ladder climb.
45 kg lift and hold for 1 minute
extending a ladder using extending line
a little BA rat run while blindfolded un under 2 minutes.
and running and making up 8 lengths of hose in 6 minutes.

Then an eyesight test and step test. Most of them fairly simple if you keep your nerves. But it does tend to weed out a lot of potential recruits. Don't know if it will be the same tests for you. I heard they lowered the weight requirement on the 45kg lift.
