L6 Fire Alarm
« on: July 03, 2016, 03:08:24 PM »
Following a request for a Grade A LD2 installation the response given was that an L6 will be provided. The only readily available reference to L6 is in sales literature with nothing showing in 5839 Pt 6 etc, am I correct in assume L6 is the design / type of detector i.e. wireless.

If my google search has come up with the same product- Amazon and EBay- as far as I can see the reference to L6 is the manufacturers marketing designation and nothing to do with any standard or installation specification. It means nothing. There appears to be no reference in the marketing to any BS for the panel and only refers to the detectors but without any numbers.

Whilst I have not come across this particular product I have had problems with other systems that appear to be similar - including no monitoring and extreme delays between operation of sounders from operation of call points and detectors. It does not meet the Part 6 Grade A spec and we must not forget that LD2 refers also to the siting and disposition of detectors.

My barge pole would be kept well away.

Hi Kurnal, thanks very much for the reply, my interpretation is the same as yours; thought I would ask just in case I had missed the introduction of a new category or something.

I've seen these on eBay before - they look cobbled together using intruder alarm & car alarm parts and appear to have no CE or other accreditation beyond the BS number to the base smoke alarms.

They may of course work fine, but I wouldn't advocate their use for a life safety situation subject to legislative requirements
