Seminars on draft guidance on fire safety in specialized housing
« on: November 29, 2016, 02:27:05 PM »
Many of you will know that C S Todd and Associates are commissioned by CFOA to draft new guidance for England and Wales (and to some extent for NI) on fire safety in specialized housing, comprising sheltered housing, extra care housing and supported housing (e.g. for small groups of people with learning difficulties or mental health problems).

A third draft is currently in preparation, having taken into account views of stakeholders, such as the housing sector and the FRS on the first and second drafts.

The next stage is to hold one seminar in London and a second seminar in the north to outline the draft to interested stakeholders and receive feedback, so enabling a 4th draft to be produced and made available for public comment.  This approach worked well when we drafted the now well recognized guidance on purpose built flats.

Each seminar will be free and  of a half day duration.  The seminar in the north will probably be on 12 January, while that in London has been confirmed for 16 January, at the HQ of our very good friends the London Fire Brigade.

If anyone with an interest/ knowledge of fire safety in this sector wants to attend, send an email to spechousing@cstodd.co.uk, and we will pass on your details to CFOA, so that you obtain a place.

They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but then it is also said that it is the highest form of intelligence; as such, it sometimes goes over people's heads.

Please feel free to attend, but it is not so much a learning opportunity as an opportunity for stakeholders to feedback their opinions on the draft guidance before it is finalized.

I adjust my wit for the company I keep.

On a serious note as the employee of a large housing association I have requested a place.

Colin, when you say up north do we mean Watford, Birmingham, Manchester or Carlisle?

Is there a draft out to read then?

Don't know - I made my little contribution of random thoughts early in the process but was dissapointed not to have been sent any drafts for my trouble.

Patience, patience.  The first draft was considered by the editorial group to whom we are responsible.  Having taken their comments, and those of a number of chums, into account, a second draft was submitted to the CFOA Higher Risk Accommodation Task Group, who had until the end of November to comment.  We are now just finalizing a third draft, which we hope the editorial group will sign off for wider release on 19 December.

It is the version agreed on 19 December that we will be outlining at these two seminars, so that we can obtain feedback from further stakeholders, following which a fourth draft will be made available for public comment.

Suppers, Watford is a boring place and south of anywhere that matters.  Birmingham is a place where they carve up drivers on their urban motorways as a sport. Carlisle is difficult to find on the map, but I believe it is a row of shops frequented by those residents of D&G who do not want to go to Glasgow.  The northern seminar is currently planned for the home of our very very very good special friends GMC, who have very kindly offered to host it, as they did the northern flats guide seminar.  Manchester is of course half way to Scotland and it rains a lot but the people are very friendly and I always liked the paintings of Lowry.

What's wrong with NI? We could follow it up with a belated Forum Xmas Bash.
